The Council on Albanian-American Relations calls for the suspension of tariffs

In response to the tariffs recently imposed by the United States on global imports, the Albanian American Relations Council (AARC ) is urging Kosovo, Albania, Montenegro , and North Macedonia to take proactive measures by suspending all tariffs on American goods.

Currently, the US imposed a 10% tariff on imports from Albania, Kosovo, and Montenegro , while North Macedonia faces a significantly higher tariff of 33%.

" We congratulate Kosovo President Vjosa Osmani for her leadership in immediately proposing to suspend tariffs on imports from the US."

This initiative is a strategic step towards deepening economic ties with the United States and aligns with broader foreign policy objectives.

We encourage the Government of Kosovo to move forward with the adoption and implementation of this policy without delay.

Furthermore, AARC calls on the governments of Albania, Montenegro, and North Macedonia to follow Kosovo's example by eliminating tariffs on U.S. imports.

Such a unified approach would not only reinforce these nations' commitment to economic cooperation, but would also send a powerful message to both the United States and the European Union about their ability to engage in constructive regional cooperation.

In addition to suspending tariffs, we call on these four countries to work together on creating a comprehensive joint proposal for the United States.

This proposal should aim for an integrated and dynamic economic environment that attracts greater American investment.

By presenting a common front, these countries can create a larger, more competitive market that stimulates economic growth and cements long-term trading relationships with the United States.

Beyond economic benefit, such an initiative would demonstrate a shared commitment to the values ​​of free trade, open markets, and strategic alliances – principles that are essential to partnership with the US and EU integration efforts.

Expanding cooperation and economic harmonization with the US could further strengthen the positions of these peoples as valuable contributors to the transatlantic community.

AARC is ready to support initiatives that promote economic stability, regional prosperity, and stronger diplomatic relations between the Western Balkans and the United States.

"We urgently urge policymakers in Kosovo, Albania, Montenegro, and North Macedonia to seize this opportunity to strengthen their ties with the United States by demonstrating their commitment to regional unity and economic progress ," says ARCC .
