Macron: Trump's tariffs are brutal. French companies should stop investing
Emmanuel Macron

French President Emmanuel Macron has reacted strongly to the tariffs imposed by Trump across the country, and stresses that he agrees with EU leaders that "nothing can be ruled out" in response to Trump's move as "all instruments are on the table."

“We need to do whatever is effective and most proportionate, but also clearly demonstrates that we are determined not to make these sectors victims of these tariffs,” he says.

Among the available tools, he prominently mentions a possible intervention in digital services, where the United States benefits enormously from Europe.

Macron stressed that the US president's decision was "brutal and unfounded."

The tariffs will have a "huge impact" on the European economy, the French president warned, adding that Americans will emerge "weaker and poorer." Then a call to French companies: stop investing in the US until the tariffs are clarified.

He also urges leaders to stand united and resist the temptation to go it alone, but to leverage the size of the European market in any policy response.
