Israel unveils “Hypnosis,” a system that disorients swarms of drones

Israeli company Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) has unveiled a new air defense system, called "Hypnosis," designed to neutralize swarms of drones by interfering with their satellite navigation signals.

According to the company, the system consists of a network of mobile stations placed around the area to be protected. These operate in a coordinated manner to jam and manipulate the command and control signals of approaching aerial threats.

IAI announced that the technology was developed based on its experience in the field of navigation warfare (NAVWAR).

The system is classified as a "soft-kill" weapon, which aims to disable the threat without physically hitting it. It is specifically designed for situations where a large number of drones attack simultaneously and the use of traditional interceptors becomes difficult or ineffective.

The introduction of "Hypnosis" comes at a time when the use of drones on the battlefield is expanding significantly, amid tensions in the Middle East and ongoing missile and drone attacks in the war between Russia and Ukraine.

The global defense industry is increasingly investing in the development of autonomous drone swarms for offensive operations, but also in defensive systems to neutralize them.

According to experts, swarms of drones are particularly difficult to stop, as they can overwhelm traditional air defense systems and increase the likelihood that at least some of them will reach the target.
