An unprecedented situation was recorded in today's parliamentary session in the Assembly of the Republic of Kosovo. Where Fatos Geci, MP of the Vetëvendosje Movement, has requested life imprisonment for former President Hashim Thaçi, who is still awaiting a decision from the Hague court.
He said that Hashim Thaçi "will suffer the fate of Naim Murseli", who, we recall, was sentenced today to life imprisonment.
"Today, I want to welcome the court's decision to sentence Naim Murseli to life imprisonment. And you (addressing the PDK deputies) who hope that your supreme leader will be released, will suffer the same fate. But even if he is released, he has no credibility in the face of Albin Kurti," Geci declared.
This statement prompted an immediate reaction from PDK MP Vlora Çitaku, who called the language used on the floor of the Parliament unacceptable.
"I never believed that from the podium of the Assembly of the Republic of Kosovo comes a prayer in the form of congratulations for life imprisonment for people who have fought for the freedom of this country," said Çitaku, as he called on "Vetvendosje" to distance itself from the statement of its MP, local media report .
In response to this, the leader of the LVV, Arbërie Nagavci, emphasized the party's position on the liberation war, describing it as "just and pure": "Regarding the KLA's liberation war, our positions are public, clear and we stand behind them. The war was just, pure and we respect the efforts of all those who contributed to the country's freedom."
Meanwhile, the Speaker of the Parliament, Albulena Haxhiu, distanced herself from this statement, emphasizing that it does not represent either her personal position or that of the Parliament and the LVV. A reaction was also made by another Vetëvendosje MP, Hysen Durmishi, who expressed that he felt embarrassed by Geci.
"I feel ashamed by the statement of MP Geci! Our war was pure and liberating! The KLA is the highest value of our nation!" said Durmishi.
We recall that former KLA leaders Hashim Thaçi, Kadri Veseli, Rexhep Selimi and Jakup Krasniqi gave their final statements in their trial at the Special Court in February.
