The end of the war in Ukraine? NYT: Putin is open to a truce!
Vladimir Putin

Russian President Vladimir Putin has said privately that he is open to a ceasefire in Ukraine, according to the New York Times report, despite the fact that the Kremlin chief has publicly said he will not withdraw from the conflict.

More than 10,000 civilians have been killed and more than 18,500 injured since the war began, according to the United Nations.

Putin has said since September that he is open to stopping the fighting, the NYT reported, citing two former senior Russian officials close to the Kremlin and other US and international officials.

Russia launched an armed attack on neighboring Ukraine on February 24, 2022, and quickly managed to occupy large parts of the country.

However, the Ukrainian forces responded, even with the help of internationals through funds and military aid, forcing Russia to withdraw from its northern regions. / The New York Times
