Ammunition made in the United States was used in the deadly Israeli attack on a civilian camp in Rafah on Sunday. This alarming data comes after investigations carried out by CNN from the scene and conversations with explosive weapons experts.

At least 45 people were killed and more than 200 others were injured in a fire that broke out after an Israeli army attack on the outskirts of Gaza's southernmost city. Most of the victims were women and children.

Footage obtained by CNN showed part of the Rafah camp in flames, with dozens of men, women and children frantically trying to find shelter from the attack. Charred bodies, including those of children, could be seen being pulled from the rubble.

Israel's escalating assault on Rafah - where some 1.3 million Palestinians are taking shelter - has been condemned internationally, with United Nations agencies, aid groups and multiple governments calling on Benjamin Netanyahu to immediately halt the offensive.
