The CEO of one of the largest cryptocurrency exchanges will plead guilty to 11 money laundering charges filed by the US Department of Justice.

Changpeng "CZ" Zhao has reached an agreement with the Department of Justice, where in addition to pleading guilty, he will also step down from the management of "Binance", the cryptocurrency exchange company.

Zhao is known to the Albanian public, but especially to cryptocurrency enthusiasts, since a year ago he visited our country and met with Prime Minister Edi Rama. At the time, Zhao said that Albania is a country that wants to increasingly support the use of cryptocurrencies.

Only a short time later, the international law enforcement authorities, and especially the Spanish ones, would carry out one of the biggest strikes in Albania, where a large network of fraudulent "call centers" with cryptocurrencies was discovered, where the damage to European citizens it was reported that it exceeded 2 billion dollars.

The US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) accused Binance and its founder CZ in June of operating an unregistered exchange using a Swiss-based fund, Sigma Chain, which was also owned by CZ. to inflate trading volume on Binance's American platform.

"Through thirteen counts, we allege that the Zhao and Binance entities engaged in a broad web of fraud, conflicts of interest, lack of transparency and evasion of the law," SEC Chairman Gary Gensler said in June.
