Ukraine sought aid in armaments from NATO and the alliance's member states without delay, warning that a major battle is coming east of the country for control of Donbass.
Donbass refers to the two regions, that of Donetsk and Luhansk, where Russian separatists control part of them and where they have declared independence from Ukraine, independence that only moscow knows.
Speaking at the press conference from NATO headquarters, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba predicted the upcoming battles for control of these two regions with World War II.
"The battle will remind you of World War II, with major operations... involvement of thousands of tanks, armoured vehicles, aircraft, artillery and tens of thousands of troops," he said.
For this, according to Kuleba, it was necessary for NATO to act immediately by providing the Ukrainian military with the necessary military support.
He said this "would not be a local operation" based on current observations of Russian preparations.
"Russia has its plan, we have the tone and the result of this battle will be decided on the battlefield," he added.
Donbasis is Ukraine's oldest and largest area for coal and steel production.
