The Israeli prime minister's office announced that he underwent surgery to remove his prostate on Sunday, a development that comes as Benjamin Netanyahu is managing multiple crises, including the war in Gaza, as well as a trial in his charge, on suspicion of corruption.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu underwent successful prostate removal surgery today at a Jerusalem hospital, hospital officials confirmed.

Ofer Gofrit, chief of urology at Jerusalem's Hadassah Medical Center, said in a video statement that the procedure went well.

Netanyahu, who has had a series of health problems in recent years, has made great efforts to bolster a public image as a healthy and energetic leader.

Judges overseeing Netanyahu's trial granted his lawyer's request on Sunday to cancel three days of testimony scheduled for this week due to his hospitalization for "several days."

Netanyahu's office said Justice Minister Yariv Levin, a close ally of his, would serve as acting prime minister during the operation.
