Prime Minister Albin Kurti warned that the scheme behind President Vjosa Osmani's decision to dissolve Parliament and declare extraordinary elections will soon be understood.
At a press conference at the Prime Minister's Office, Kurti denied being responsible for the situation, listing the actions he has taken in an attempt to find a solution.
"Many things are difficult to understand now, even more difficult to explain, perhaps to some extent even to describe, but time will tell, and very soon, what this kind of plan was, this kind of scheme to force us into repeated elections in an unfair and unnecessary manner," declared Prime Minister Albin Kurti.
Regarding Vjosa Osmani's non-candidate status, Prime Minister Kurti explained that the current president was not a consensual figure and did not guarantee the necessary quorum.
Kurti highlighted that this happened after the main opposition party, PDK, demanded that the names for president be from the parties.
"We have tried to find the consensual figure and the path for party proposals was started by the main opposition party, PDK, we were not for it. When they said that only party proposals would be made and the deadline when we had to give at least one proposal was approaching, we came to the name of Glauk Konjufca. Now, we knew in advance that neither the current president nor the potential president guarantee us the quorum, this was seen last night with 66 MPs and in this situation we cooperated with other parties. And this is the main reason why we acted as we did and in the end we came to the situation that neither the current president was a candidate", said Kurti.
Kurti refused to comment on Osman's claims that the situation was brought to this point by people with dangerous intentions. According to him, she did not mention names.
"If we talk about specific people, I don't know that we were mentioned there, if you are right, again I believe that you should look for the answer in those who said it, not in guessing or who they might be," Kurti emphasized.
Kurti insisted that the decree dissolving the Assembly and calling elections is unconstitutional, therefore he requested that the Constitutional Court's decision be awaited.
He recalled a constitutional article that states that the Assembly has 60 days to elect the president from the start of the procedure and if there is no successful vote, the Assembly is dissolved.
"We consider that we have 60 days based on the Constitution of the Republic of Kosovo to make a solution and not have a choice ," said the Prime Minister.
Kurti said that after Murat Jashari, he had also proposed Andin Hoti, the son of activist Ukshin Hoti, but that he was rejected by the opposition parties. According to him, PDK and LDK did not propose any names.
According to him, elections are not a solution since no one will get 80 votes and they will have to sit down again to talk.
"I do not believe that repeated elections are a new solution, on the contrary, there will be a kind of continuation of the legislative, institutional agony, in general, which is unnecessary, in addition to being unfair, and at least the elections will cost 10 million euros ," Kurti declared.
