The 19-story "Union Bank" tower diverts the road at the entrance to "Ali Demi" and usurps the "1 Maji" School!

A 19-story tower, designed to be built on Bajram Curri Boulevard in Tirana, will completely change the entrance to the Ali Demi neighborhood. The tower will take over part of the street and the 1 Maji school, to be used as premises for the multi-story building.

According to documents available to VoxNews, the 19-story tower will be built by "Union Bank", and has also passed the National Council of Territorial Affairs. The documents state that "the development permit for the 'administrative structure 19 floors above ground and 4 floors underground 'Union Bank HQ Albania', located on 'Bajram Curri' Boulevard, Tirana Municipality, with the development companies 'Union Bank', 'Auto City' and 'Arch Investor' as the subject," the document states.

All three development firms are linked to the Leka family, which owns Union Bank.

In the accompanying documents, which VoxNews researched, it is written that the gross area where the project is located is 3.26 hectares. "This area is mainly built with low-rise residential buildings, of the private villa type. Also in the southern part of the area, high-rise buildings with a service function have been built. One of the basic categories of this unit is education, with the location of one of the most important schools in the city of Tirana, the '1 Maji' school," the documents write.

It is further stated that the anticipated functions are the headquarters of one of the most important Albanian banks. The first 10 floors are for exclusive office use, while the top floors are designed to host functions of a more informal nature, a sky bar/terrace usable for events of all kinds.

The documents state that the concept and spaces are envisioned to best serve the community, where the space will be arranged to be as relaxing and recreational as possible. "The position of the facilities has been realized by making the best use of the terrain and the orientation of pedestrians and automobiles, while maintaining the construction lines and normal urban planning according to the relevant laws to bring an example of development of this scale," the documents state.

They have fallen a little far and wide, as from the photos of later projects it turns out that the tower project affects the entrance to the "Ali Demi" neighborhood. It even affects a territory of the "1 Maji" school, as well as the statue of the People's Hero Ali Demi. It even affects the words "Ali Demi" which are in fact the entrance to the neighborhood.

So, the street, the school, the square and the statue will change just to get permission for another tower. As has often happened in other countries, this project has not even been submitted for consultation with interest groups. How did the Ministry of Education give permission to touch the school? What about the Municipality of Triana for the street and the statue?! It seems that, in this country of ours, the idea and the approval of a development permit are enough and then the doors open everywhere; the great one has signed it!

The documents also include photos of how the 19-story tower will be built, how the road will be diverted, or even how the part in front of the school will be built. Normally, models look beautiful when you see them in the documents, but they hide a lot. For example, the change of a road in favor of a palace. Or the relocation and demolition of a statue for the palace, or even the change of the school entrance.

But can you build a monster next to the school? Can you change a lot just to make the next move?!
