Former president and Republican presidential candidate, Donald Trump, escaped an assassination attempt on him at a rally held in Pennsylvania, as the perpetrator was neutralized, but one participant was killed.
A chaotic event developed in a few seconds was that of Trump's rally during Saturday evening (early morning in Albania), where initially, while Trump was speaking, several shots were heard.
In a video, which immediately circulated on traditional and social media, Trump is seen putting his hand to his right ear, and then the Secret Service intervenes by laying him on the ground and pouncing on him.
A few more shots continue to be heard and stop in a split second.
Trump is then led on foot with four members of the Secret Service surrounding him and a demonstrative sign, bleeding on the right side of his face, raises his fist, capturing a shot that instantly becomes front page news. worldwide, under the title "Trump escapes shooting in Pennsylvania".
Taken out of the scene immediately, the former US president is immediately confirmed to be slightly injured, but in good condition, without specifying anything further.
The American president, Joe Biden, meanwhile, went to an emergency press conference.
He strongly condemned the event, stating that in American democracy, there is no place for these types of acts.
Mystery, meanwhile, surrounds the event.
The American Secret Services came out with the announcement that they neutralized the suspected author of the event and clarified that another person from the audience was killed.
The whole event meanwhile, according to the same source, is being investigated as a possible assassination attempt against Trump.
FBI officer Kevin Rojek has confirmed that the incident against former president Donald Trump is being treated as an assassination attempt.
"This evening we had what we call an assassination attempt on our former president Donald J Trump", he said.
"It's still an active crime scene," he added, noting that they had a number of agents on the scene investigating the incident.
The suspect in the assassination of Trump is a 20-year-old boy from Pennsylvania: His name is Thomas Matthew Crooks.
He has no criminal record in Pennsylvania and investigators have yet to identify a motive.
On a state voter registry, Crooks lists himself as a Republican, though federal campaign finance records show he donated $15 to the Progressive Participation Project, a liberal voter participation group, through the ActBlue Democratic giving platform in January 2021.
Investigators are searching his home in Bethel Park, south of Pittsburgh and about an hour's drive from the Butler shooting site.
So, the British BBC media team has measured the distance that the assassin had from Trump.
The team studied the layout of the rally where Trump was addressing the crowd and the connection between the scene he was standing on and where the suspected gunman was positioned.
Using Google Maps, the white line you can see marked on the photo measures a distance of about 130 meters between the two points.
Trump, however, reacted after the attack by saying: "I want to thank the United States Secret Service and all of the Law Enforcement Forces for their quick response to the shooting that just happened in Butler, Pennsylvania. Most importantly, I want to express my condolences to the family of the person killed in the rally, as well as to the family of another person who was seriously injured."
"It is unbelievable that such an act can happen in our country. At the moment, nothing is known about the attacker, who is already dead. I was shot with a bullet that pierced the top of my right ear. I knew right away that something was wrong in that I heard a hiss, shots, and immediately felt the bullet rip through the skin. There was a lot of bleeding, so that's when I realized what was happening."
Meanwhile, world leaders have reacted by strongly condemning the attack on Trump and stressing that there is no place for political violence in democracy.
