Violation of citizens' privacy, 19 subjects will be fined in 2023

During the past year, 19 entities were fined for abusing citizens' data. The Commissioner for the Protection of Personal Data has taken decisions with the relevant administrative measures for 19 public and private entities, finding numerous violations regarding the implementation of the legislation that guarantees the privacy of citizens. In total, the value of the imposed fines reaches 4.52 million ALL, and each subject is penalized with different amounts depending on the violation.

But what were the most problematic sectors in this regard during the past year?

Referring to the decisions taken by the commissioner, it seems that companies operating in the real estate market, travel companies, postal companies, public and non-public, insurance, companies that practice marketing by telephone, are the most punished.

Meanwhile, recently there has been an increased attention for checks in the non-public kindergartens of Tirana, which is related to the publication of children's photos on social networks, without first obtaining the consent of the parents.

As for real estate subjects, the problem is noticed in the fact that companies do not inform data subjects about the purpose and method of personal data processing, the person who will process the data, the data retention period, security measures , the rights enjoyed (access, correction and deletion) etc.
