Baby bonus, condition of stay 180 days in Albania, data will be obtained from

The government intends to direct the baby bonus policy launched a few years ago to families who actually live in Albania, thus eliminating the benefit of those who no longer live in the country. In a decision approved on Wednesday of this week, the Council of Ministers has made changes where it includes as a condition of staying 180 days in Albania in the previous year for parents of newborn babies. This data will be obtained from the TIMS system.

"The immediate financial aid (bonus) according to point 1, chapter I, of this decision, benefits: a) the parent/parents of the newborn baby, Albanian citizens, who live in the territory of the Republic of Albania, at least 180 ( one hundred and eighty) calendar days of the previous year, according to the data of the TIMS system and registered according to the legal terms defined in the law on civil status," the decision states.

Another element that is added is the benefit of this bonus from those foreigners who have settled in Albania as asylum seekers or refugees who decide that their child's citizenship should be Albanian.

"The parent/parents with another nationality, who are legal residents of the Republic of Albania, who have been granted the status of refugee, supplementary protection or asylum seeker by the Albanian state and decide to give the baby Albanian citizenship, according to the law on Albanian citizenship, and they register him as an Albanian citizen in the National Register of Civil Status" is stated in the second point regarding state aid.

In September of this year, the decision related to the baby bonus was changed, aiming for the benefits to be for citizens living inside the country, since over the years, Albanian immigrants living abroad had also benefited from this legal space. For the government this was a double benefit as they benefit from the schemes in the countries where they are deployed.

The government approved the baby bonus which has a financial benefit of 40,000 Lek for the first child, 80,000 Lek for the second and 120,000 Lek for the third and subsequent babies as a policy to increase the birth rate but so far it has not there is an assessment of its effectiveness.
