Brunilda Mersini, now a confirmed candidate for mayor of Vlora, has been put at the center of political and personal attacks, even before she officially takes office. A situation that speaks more about the fears and vested interests of her opponents than about her figure.

Bruna, as citizens know her, has a distinguished 10-year career in the management of the Vlora Regional Hospital, where she carried out a profound reform. The hospital, once in a deplorable state, was transformed from the foundations, from basic premises to modern equipment and working conditions, into an institution where citizens finally felt respected and treated with dignity. She made no noise, never sought media attention to advertise her work and let the results speak for themselves.

And the citizens of Vlora rewarded her. In the May 11 elections, Bruna won the mandate of deputy with a landslide result, ranking first in the Southern District on the women's list, a clear testament to the popular support and trust she had earned through honest work.

After the recent developments in the Municipality of Vlora, it was Prime Minister Rama himself who asked her to run for its leadership. And Bruna did not back down. She was not afraid. She did not say "I can't do it".

She rose to the challenge, becoming the first woman to run for office in her city. She knew she would face attacks, slander, and smear attempts because that's how politics works when old interests, inherited abuses, and institutional parasites get in the way.

When she was the hospital director, no one remembered to invent stories about her. When she became a deputy, no "whistleblower" came to light. But now that she has the opportunity to establish order and return the municipality to the citizens, everyone remembered to "worry". Because Bruna represents a real threat to those who are used to profiting at the expense of the citizens.

Instead of debating her program or vision for Vlora, opponents have chosen to attack her personally, even delving into distant and family stories, including people who have no connection to her journey. Bruna has always followed an honest, fair and committed path to the community, while anyone else who has chosen a different path cannot and should not be used to tarnish her.

In the 1990s, during the turmoil of 1997, she was just a student girl with a dream to become a doctor and serve her country. And she made it happen. She stayed in Albania, built her career with honesty and professionalism, became the voice and support of women and people in need. Today, she continues her mission to be at the service of citizens, this time as mayor.

The elections are approaching. And the citizens of Vlora will know how to distinguish between work and slander, between truth and intrigue. They will speak with their vote and one thing is certain. Bruna will be the new mayor of Vlora. Because the citizens know that this is the path to change, while for the slanderers it will always remain the only "job" they know how to do.
