Shkëlqim Goxhaj, director of the Tirana Fire Department, said that the fire at the "5 Maji" clothing market is nearing extinction.

He stated that firefighters are doing heroic work on the ground.

Goxhaj said that the burning silos contained clothes and plastic objects that spread the fire. It is not yet known whether there are gas cylinders inside.

Meanwhile, Goxhaj added that firefighters are on the verge of completely isolating the fire source.

Shkëlqim Goxhaj: These silos and businesses are safe. The fire was localized only to the building that collapsed at the beginning. It was the first hour. What we fought with all our strength was the materials themselves and the roof that carried the fire. We then moved on to isolating the fire source only in this building. Surrounding the building with forces from the Tirana Kamza Vora and Elbasan services. We have help from the state and municipal police. Knowing that the materials inside were complete with clothes and plastic equipment, we moved on to the second plan with isolating the building so that it does not spread.

The stores are different, we have not been able to distinguish what is inside. There is a large amount of clothes and plastic. We will look into the details in detail. We are at the moment when the fire is almost under control. There is no information that help has arrived from the army. The police and our employees will conduct the expertise.
