Denis Meçe, arrested as the author of the murder of Egli Proga in Pogradec, was not an unknown name for the blues of the lake city.

It is known that the 29-year-old Meçe has previous criminal records, mainly in criminal offenses that violate public order and safety, including injuring other citizens or opposing the police forces.

Even for the residents of Pogradec, this citizen is known as a very problematic person, who was involved in dubious activities and often had aggressive behavior in the city.

During the years 2014, 2016 and 2020, the citizen Denis Meçe was prosecuted several times by the police, but according to the data, he was never convicted by the court, while the 29-year-old managed to escape criminal proceedings.

Meanwhile, since August 11, 2024, he is under arrest after being accused of killing Eglanti Proga.

The prosecution accuses him of 'manslaughter by negligence', which means a lower punishment than the criminal offense that the police had referred to as 'intentional murder'.

To escape the cell, Meçe and his lawyer claimed that Meçe did not escape from the police for several hours, but since he was in a drunken state, he left the scene of the crime, slept in the car and when it was mentioned that went to the police.

In the decision of judge Luljeta Kole, it is said that he apologized to the family, but in the testimony given immediately after the surrender, he says that he wanted to simply shoot his victim with a slap after swearing at him, even though the file clearly shows signs of violence in the body of the 42-year-old.

On the other hand, the file also evidences the fact that the violence is also confirmed by an environmental surveillance that was done to the witnesses Leonidha Guce and Arian Manellari, who anxiously ask each other how it is possible that Eglantini died from a punch, while in the police had stated that they had not seen the incident.

The serious event that occurred on the afternoon of Saturday, August 10 in Pogradec shocked the public opinion and brought a series of reactions up to the highest instances of politics and the state.
