Two Albanians who left a man with a brain haemorrhage after attacking him in a Peterborough bar have been jailed together for ten years.
Lulzim Sinimati, 27, and Fatos Kertolli, 36 , claimed they acted in self-defense when they carried out the attack, but were found guilty of causing grievous bodily harm.
A jury heard how the pair were in a pub on Broadway when a fight broke out at around 3am on July 20.
One man was left with minor facial injuries, while the second was hospitalized with bleeding on the brain and fractures to his spine and face.
Surveillance footage captured the victim being repeatedly punched in the face before falling to the floor, where he was then repeatedly kicked in the body.
The pair appeared at Cambridge Crown Court on Wednesday (February 19), where Sinimati was jailed for four and a half years, while Kertolli was jailed for five and a half years.
Both men have also been made subject to 10-year restraining orders prohibiting them from contacting the victims.
Detective Constable Dylan Lenton , who investigated the incident, said: “ Both men claimed they acted in self-defence, however footage showed them viciously attacking one victim in a sustained attack. The injuries they inflicted were so severe that at one point it was thought the injured man would not survive. He has since recovered, although the effects of the trauma he suffered to his brain will stay with him forever .”
