The chaos in the transfer of control of the Al Hol camp in Syria from Kurdish to Syrian government forces was exploited by many women and children to flee. 20-year-old Albanian Eva Dumani did the same.
After 6 years in the hell of Al Hol, Eva managed to cross the camp's perimeter fence on the morning of February 1.
Three days later, with the help of a Syrian intelligence official, he traveled through the night in this white Renault car towards the Syrian-Turkish border crossing of Hatay.
There, her uncle Xhetan Ndregjoni was waiting for her, a moment captured in this video.
Eva Dumani spent her first days in freedom in the Adana region at the home of Erven Kaya, president of the Albanian association in this city.
Erven exclusively for Top Channel journalist Muhamed Veliu, recounted his conversations with Eva, now free after 12 years of suffering in Syria.
Eva told him that her father, Shkëlzeni, who was killed a few weeks after arriving in Syria in 2014, had told her that he and his brother Endrin were going for a walk, without knowing where they were going.
At his house, says Erven, Eva spent most of her time with his mother, worried about what the Turkish authorities would decide.
Erven Kaya: "Eva stayed with us for 8 days. When Eva arrived, she was relieved to be among Albanians. But she still seemed to be somewhat nervous because she had not seen her mother and family for 12 years. There were many Albanians in that camp. I heard this from her."
Erven says that his brother translated Eva's conversation with Turkish intelligence officials after they were notified by Albanian intelligence after she had entered Turkish territory.
Erven Kaya: "The Turkish authorities have had some concerns about Eva regarding terrorism as Syria continues to have many problems."
And a few moments before Eva's trip to Albania last Saturday, some photos with Xhetan Ndregjoni, who closed a 12-year arduous chapter with many trips to Turkey and Iraq to bring his niece home as he had promised his sister, Mide.
