SCANDAL of TOXIC waste from Albania to Thailand, is Gazheli involved in this
Ghent Gazheli

When the scandal of exporting toxic waste from Albania to Thailand broke out, Gent Gazheli , the man who runs the most suspected institution for this scandalous case, gave a half-false statement, without any scruples.

The General Directorate of Customs stated on August 21, 2024 that " ...the case cited by the media is not an export from Albania but an international transit of zinc concentrate product from Kosovo ".

This statement did not match reality at all.

After, Gazheli and his office were referring to a case that happened in March of this year and destined for China, while the local and international media, as well as specialized agencies, raised the alarm about the export of toxic substances to Singapore, with the port as the starting point Maritime of Durrës.

After this half-hearted and false statement, Gazheli remained silent, hid behind Belinda Balluk's public appearances, hoping that everything would be forgotten and no one would deal with him personally and his subordinates.

Gazheli remained calm even when Kosovo Customs denied him.

Currently, an investigation has been launched by the Prosecutor's Office of Durrës, but the hopes for a positive result and the discovery and bringing of the perpetrators to legal responsibility are very faint.

The Durrës Prosecutor's Office started the criminal investigation very late, only after the media was buzzing about the scandal of the export of suspected toxic waste from our country to Singapore.

Now that the media momentum for that scandal has somewhat decreased, even the Prosecutor's Office does not seem to be in any great hurry to discover the truth of the scandal.

The data so far, although partial, create strong suspicions that the genesis of the scandal or, more precisely, the internationalization of the toxic waste export scandal, lies with the Albanian customs authorities.

From what is known so far, it appears that the company "Sokolaj" bought the material from the company "Kurum" and then sent it with containers from the port of Durrës, destined for Taiwan.

Also, the data published in the media, so far not officially confirmed by the state authorities, say that the export of these wastes created by 'Kurum' was not allowed, but the exporting company has "modified" the product slips.

If this is the case, then the Albanian Customs has a very essential role in this whole story that once again put Albania on the map of scandalous cases.

Institucioni i drejtuar nga Gent Gazheli ka detyrimin kryesor që të parandalojë kontrabandimin apo edhe eksportimin e lëndëve që nuk lejohen të qarkullojnë lirisht.

In the event that the company "Sokolaj" has "modified" the documents, it is again the Albanian Customs that has a very big responsibility, since 800 tons of toxic waste left the country with false documents.

And, in the following, while suspicions fall on the customs administration, for, at least, incompetence, the head of this institution, Gazheli, took it upon himself to protect his subordinates, through a false and untruthful statement.

A responsible leader demands responsibility and takes measures to prevent similar scandals or not to repeat them.

But, when the incumbent defends forcefully, even with false statements, the violations of subordinates, many may think that he himself is involved "in an affair".

Until now, Gent Gazheli has been hiding behind Balluk.

It remains to be seen how long Balluk's shoulders will carry the General Debtor of Customs, which is the nomenclature of the Ministry of Finance, while the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Infrastructure at the same time has many of her directors to protect./ BoldNews
