The perpetrator of the murder of the 50-year-old head of the Lithovouni community in Aitoloakarnania, an Albanian citizen, is expected to apologize to the authorities tomorrow, while investigations are uncovering new data that shed light on the motive for the crime that has shocked the area.
According to the investigative show "Zbulesa", the victim's wife testified that her husband had threatened her with death.
In a statement, she said she feared for her life and that of the perpetrator, with whom she is suspected of having a secret affair.
"I am shocked. Kostas has been threatening me repeatedly lately that he would kill me, both me and the alleged perpetrator. I was afraid for my life and for his life. I am most concerned about the mental health of my child," she stated, also expressing regret for the loss of the 50-year-old.
A village resident, speaking on the show "Truth with Zina", claimed that he had initially advised the victim to "leave the situation and leave", hinting at ongoing tensions between the parties.
Funeral with strict security measures
The funeral of Kostas Alexandris, killed on Saturday, January 17, was held on Tuesday morning at the Church of Agios Dimitrios in Lithovouni, amidst a heavy emotional atmosphere.
Relatives, friends and fellow villagers said their final goodbyes to the father of a minor child and the leader of the Local Community.
According to sinidisi.gr, the most tragic figure of the ceremony was his 13-year-old son, who stood next to his mother and uncle.
Great pain was also seen in the victim's mother. Wreaths of tribute were sent, among others, by Deputy Minister of Labor Kostas Karagounis, Mayor of Agrinio Giorgos Papanastasiou, the Municipal Council of Agrinio and other local institutions.
Details of the crime
According to preliminary information, the 44-year-old perpetrator, whose name has not been released, had ambushed the victim and shot him three times with a firearm, while the 51-year-old was passing by in his vehicle.
As a result of the shooting, the victim lost control of the car, which ended up in a field in the area.
During the search at the scene, police determined that the victim was found face down in the passenger seat, while a shotgun was also found inside the vehicle, indicating that he was armed.
A few hours after the crime, the perpetrator contacted the police himself and asked to surrender, stating: " Come and get me from the house, I killed her ," and during the arrest he also handed over the murder weapon.
His defense attorney, Christos Tsiboukis, has stated that "90% of what has been heard and written about the case is unfounded," but has acknowledged that the role of the victim's wife is key in fully uncovering the incident.
According to investigative sources, the main motive is suspected to have been romantic rivalry.
Fear of retaliation
Increased security measures have been put in place in the area, with the presence of police forces and OPKE agents, who are guarding the homes of both families, to avoid any acts of revenge.
Authorities report that tension remains high in the surrounding villages, while investigations continue to fully clarify the circumstances of the crime.
