Full announcement:
The Ministry of Defense and all operational structures of civil emergencies are engaged in carefully monitoring the situation in the country, working to restore normality as soon as possible in the most problematic areas after the heavy rainfall that was recorded on Wednesday. The main focus is on the Municipality of Durrës, where measures are being taken to normalize the situation.
The Armed Forces, the National Civil Protection Agency (AKMC), local structures and the Civil Emergencies near the municipality are working intensively in several areas, including the stadium intersection, the train station, the “17 Nëntori” neighborhood, the Kënetës area and Shkozet. The Civil Emergencies have helped four children trapped in a school van and a family, while the most problematic situation has been in about 40 apartments in Shkozet, where the presence of water has been recorded.
To support field operations, the Armed Forces have sent two high-capacity suction pumps and three high-pass vehicles. Currently, the forces of the Durrës Regional Drainage Directorate are working to clean the High Water Canal in the city ring road, while the Port Authority structures, Durrës Municipality enterprises, the Ministry of Environment and Water Management and the Municipal Police are also engaged in this process.
According to the Prefect of Durrës, the situation is moving towards normalization. The hydroelectric power plant is working at full capacity, and the water level in the Erzen and Ishëm rivers is within safe quotas, without danger. Also, the situation is normal in the dams of the water catchments and dischargers.
In the rest of the country, the situation is under control and there are no problems with traffic. All rivers and reservoirs are within normal limits and do not pose a risk. The National Civil Emergencies Agency and the Armed Forces are on standby to intervene in the regions of Shkodër, Lezhë, Durrës and Tirana, where moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms is expected.
