Serbian Minister of Internal Affairs, Ivica Dacic, announced on Thursday that an Albanian citizen, DP (53 years old), was arrested at the Merdar crossing point, on whom "so-called propaganda materials of the Kosovo Liberation Army" were found.

It is suspected, according to Dacic, that these materials were planned to be used during the football match between Serbia and Albania to be held in Leskovac on October 11 as part of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

He said that the suspect is charged with the criminal offense of inciting national, racial and religious hatred and intolerance.

He specified that the police, during the control at the Merdar checkpoint, after inspecting a "Mercedes" car, in which the suspect was traveling from the direction of Kosovo, found five bags containing 22 T-shirts, 244 flags and 86 hats with the inscription "KLA", 65 T-shirts with the image of Agim Ramadani, 58 scarves with the coat of arms of Albania, as well as 92 other hats.

The suspect has been detained for 48 hours and will be sent to the High Public Prosecutor's Office in Prokuplje.

"Members of the Ministry of Internal Affairs are constantly implementing measures and actions to maintain public order and peace and security at sporting events, to ensure that matches take place in a safe environment and in accordance with all measures set by the Football Federation of Serbia," Dacic added.
