European Commissioner for Development, Marta Kos, has presented the progress reports of candidate countries for membership in the European Union before the European Parliament's Foreign Affairs Committee, congratulating the Western Balkan countries on their progress in this process, including Albania.

In her speech, Kos particularly praised Albania, Moldova and Ukraine as the countries with the fastest progress, while she described Montenegro as the most prepared in the Balkans for the next phase of the enlargement process.

She emphasized the importance of deepening cooperation with candidate countries and the role of reforms as a key factor in their progress towards the EU.

" Aspiring countries must prepare for the responsibilities of integration. We must prepare for a larger European Union. Montenegro aims for membership in 2026, Albania in 2027 and Moldova in 2028."

These ambitions are more important than the years themselves, and the Commission is helping the countries to achieve them. These candidate countries have achieved a significant part of their ambitions.

This means that Montenegro is the most prepared to join the EU. From the measurements made for the period 2024–2025, Montenegro's overall preparation results in the strongest. Albania has made unprecedented progress: 5 out of 6 chapters have been opened and one is expected to open in November , "said Kos.
