Prime Minister Edi Rama has responded with a public letter on the X network to former Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras, accusing him and his new party of turning the incident in Zvërnec into a politically charged issue, ignoring the facts and promoting narratives based, according to him, on half-truths.
Rama states that the Zvërnec event did not occur during an ordinary protest for property rights, but in a climate of tensions fueled by disinformation and efforts to hinder the activity of international private investors, who, according to him, are operating on private lands purchased legally and in accordance with Albanian legislation.
The head of government emphasizes that any harm to a person, regardless of their nationality, is unacceptable and punishable, but underlines that the Albanian authorities reacted immediately after the incident. He recalls that the people involved from the private security company were arrested, the company's license was revoked and the director of the Vlora Police was dismissed from duty.
"What more would you expect, Alexis, and what additional measures would you have taken as prime minister in these circumstances?" Rama writes, adding that it is not right for an isolated incident to be presented as evidence of a violation of the rights of the Greek minority, property rights or the rule of law in Albania.
In his response, Rama emphasizes that respecting the rule of law, protecting property, and guaranteeing the rights of national minorities are constitutional obligations and European commitments of Albania. He underlines that the facts should be determined by the competent institutions and courts, not by political statements made from abroad.
The Prime Minister describes the Greek national minority in Albania as a precious "asset", emphasizing that it enjoys the same rights and protection as every Albanian citizen. Rama states that good neighborly relations are built on facts, respect for institutions and not on political speculation.
At the end of the message, he wishes Tsipras success in the upcoming elections, expressing the hope that his new political force will avoid, according to him, the temptation to gain support through nationalist rhetoric and hasty conclusions towards neighboring countries.
My dear @atsipras

I hope you are in great shape.
Sorry to bother, but I wanted to share my amazement at how quickly even your new party has contributed to transforming a completely isolated incident into a matter of broader political significance, dismissing established facts...
