Professions expected to be in demand and paid the most in 2023; the sectors that

2023 has just come knocking and individuals are starting to take stock of their priorities as prices and living costs have risen sharply.

Businesses, on the other hand, are increasingly feeling the lack of labor force, due to high emigration and the "refusal" of young people to work in low-paid professions.

But, this year may have good news for many employees in the country, in almost all sectors. "The year 2023 will bring salary increases for everyone, but some categories will have higher increases", predicts Erald Pashaj, Administrator of EPPC Albania & Kosovo, the company specialized in the field of staff training and development; research and selection; payroll consulting and surveying and staff for hire.

According to him, the highest increases will be for low wages, but also for some categories, e.g. information or technical technology.

The increase will be higher for low wages, e.g., production workers up to 20% and the Technical categories (mechanical, electrical, construction, air conditioning, etc.), installers, engineers, because these categories have not only internal demand, but they are also attracted from abroad, to work in countries such as Croatia, Slovenia, Hungary, but also Italy, Switzerland and Germany, which have high demand.

"While the +20% increase for unqualified employees comes due to their lack in the market, but also due to the lack of interest on the part of the population to not work for low wages.

Both of these categories are also affected by leaving the country, which decreases on average by -40,000 active employees who leave Albania every year. The first way to prevent the departure of employees is to intervene in the salary increase, and even a significant increase", Pashaj recommends.

According to him, the peak point of offering even higher wages will be June 2023, when the tourism and construction sector will give the maximum wages to attract and retain the labor force; tourism before the 2023 tourist season and construction for all works under construction and those that have received permission and will be built.

According to the table calculated by EPPC, for employees of the fashion industry, for example, the minimum net salary is expected to reach almost 49,000 ALL/month in 2023, from 45,000 ALL in 2022. The salary of an assistant will reach 43,000 ALL, from 40,000 ALL Lek.

For finance employees, the minimum net salary from 70,000 is expected to reach almost 76,000 ALL/month.

For programmers, the monthly estimate from 100 thousand ALL can go to 108 thousand ALL.

An increase in salaries and reward policies for managers is expected

Remuneration policies are expected to continue to be motivating for leaders and managers.

"Even the high salaries from the General Director, (CEO), or department heads (CEO-1) will have an increase during 2023. Their increase will not be in the same percentage as the low salaries, but in value absolutely, these positions will also show a significant increase.

The competition for talent for such profiles will continue to be high during 2023 and salaries will increase", predicts Pashaj.

Executive profiles, unlike profiles with low salaries, are not only motivated by salary increases, but also by a complete package of benefits such as: annual bonus, representative and safe vehicle, insurance package for themselves and their families, plan pension, quality training, etc., as well as working conditions aimed at the mental and physical well-being of the leader. "A leader with a long career should have all these in order to be even more dedicated and productive for the future."

According to the EPPC tables, for CFOs, the minimum net salary from ALL 285 thousand/month can go to ALL 308 thousand.

For information technology managers, the monthly income can reach an average of 270 thousand ALL, from 250 thousand ALL per month in 2022.

Human resources managers can be paid a minimum of 162,000 ALL, from 150,000 ALL at present.

Salaries, at least, should be indexed with inflation

"The price of work changes every year, in fact, as do the prices of products in the market. There are periods during which volatility in the economy is low and as a result, product prices and wages are more stable, or with small changes.

There are also moments when the economy is very dynamic, inflation is high, or economic growth is rapid, or there is a high demand for employees of a sector, which is booming, or of several sectors at the same time, but there is also a contraction of the labor supply. , because an active part of the labor force leaves the country or no longer prefers to work in certain profiles, etc.

When all these factors meet in a certain period, one, two or three years together, but also in a single year, then the changes are also very high and unpredictable, which we experienced in 2021-2022 and which will continue until the middle of 2023", says Pashaj.

"Like any other product, the price of labor is the result of demand and supply for labor. The main factor affecting the price of work, in other words the salary, is the demand and supply for a certain profile or similar work within the same family.

Of course, in addition to supply and demand, there are other factors that affect the salary of each of us, for example, performance, specialization in a certain aspect, relationships, etc., but in the first place it is the labor market for a job position".

He adds that one of the elements of the salary increase, which is not a primary factor, but which has been very important this year, is inflation. "The general increase in the level of prices means that the price of work, i.e. the salary, must increase as well as the prices of other products. If oil, energy, food, and services increase, why shouldn't wages be increased?! "

Pashaj says that in our country, this practice is mainly followed by foreign companies, while domestic ones do not follow it, and this is one of the reasons that the largest outflow of qualified and unqualified employees is in domestic companies.

"Official inflation is already at the level of 8%, and this inflation should be the minimum increase for 2023.

Of course, growth beyond 8% depends on many business factors, but I think 8% should be the floor for growth in 2023." Monitor
