Ledjan Imeraj is the 17-year-old Albanian who lost his life in Italy, after a building housing unaccompanied minors was engulfed in flames.
"Ledjani passed away yesterday evening, in a fire that robbed him of his dream to live the dignified and peaceful life he was looking for", the Italian media write.
He left for Italy at the age of 15, arriving first in Trieste and then in Pasian di Prato, where he was placed in a shelter.
The teenager had not returned to his homeland since he left and was looking forward to turning 18 to embrace his family again.
"What happened is the shared responsibility of all of us... I hope that all this will make us reflect on how we should take care of these children, because you cannot play with their lives," said a teacher of the minor.
Lediani spent hours listening to music: in Albania he was a dancer in the school band.
He knew and loved to dance traditional dances with which he often entertained and involved his friends, even here in Italy.
"Ledjani was a kind, altruistic and sensitive person, friendship and loyalty were two very important values for him, he did his best to help anyone who was sick", said his friends.
On the last day of 2022, he had planned a trip to Venice with some friends to spend the new year together.
