A Ryanair flight turned into a 12-hour nightmare after bad weather forced the plane to land twice in different locations.

Flight RK8288 departed London Stansted for Tirana at 16:00 on June 3 and was expected to arrive in Albania within three hours.

Instead, passengers experienced diversions to Brindisi in Italy and Thessaloniki in Greece, after thunderstorms made it impossible for the plane to land at Tirana Airport.

The plane finally landed in the Albanian capital at 05:00 local time, approximately nine hours late.

But during the second stop in Greece, police were called on board to restore order after angry passengers began confronting crew members.

The plane was filled with noisy groups of men traveling for stag parties, as well as young men carrying bottles of vodka purchased at duty free, as the Balkan festival season approached.

According to reports, some British passengers were visibly drunk before the plane took off.

Initially, passengers were not allowed to buy food or drinks while the plane was stranded on the runway in Italy.

When sales of products on board finally resumed, almost everything was sold out immediately, except for a few packets of chips.

A passenger, heavily intoxicated, refused to follow the crew's instructions and began moving freely in the cabin.

A flight attendant was forced to physically stop him.

"She literally grabbed him, lifted him up like a baby and pushed him back into his seat... it was crazy," the source said.

When the plane arrived in Thessaloniki, the passengers staged what the source described as a "rebellion" against the captain.

"He's a coward! The pilot needs to come out and face us like a man!" a group of angry men shouted in the direction of the cockpit.

About 12 passengers declared that they would no longer stay on board and told the pilot: There is no way you can keep us here .

Greek police then boarded the plane and are believed to have asked the crew to allow the disgruntled passengers to disembark.

"People were shouting towards the cockpit, calling him a coward and asking him to come out and face them like a man," said one passenger.

The source also told the newspaper that his attempt to request compensation was automatically rejected as soon as he entered his flight number.

"It was automatically rejected as soon as I entered the flight number. I got an automated email saying: 'Your request has been rejected,'" he said.

He has decided to take the matter further through AviationADR, seeking a refund.

In correspondence first reported by the Daily Mail, Ryanair stated that the flight " was cancelled due to unexpected and extraordinary circumstances, which were beyond our control ."

A Ryanair spokesperson said the diversions occurred due to adverse weather conditions at Tirana Airport and a subsequent thunderstorm.
