The OSCE Presence in Albania has joined the cross-party support, the Association of Journalists, SCIDEV-Center and Safe Journalists in welcoming the decision of the RTSH to suspend the process of selecting the Director General.
In a public response, the OSCE Presence in Albania has called for a transparent, merit-based process that ensures fairness and accountability.
"We look forward to Monday's hearing," it is further emphasized.
We recall that after the call from the Parliamentary Media Commission, the RTSH Steering Council suspended until Monday the decision to disqualify eight of the 10 candidates for head of the public television from the race.
In an emergency meeting held the day before under the leadership of Deputy Chairman Gëzim Podgorica, with nine votes in favor, it was decided that all decision-making will continue after a hearing session is held at the Media Commission, announced for the beginning of next week.
At the same time, a decision was made to postpone the meeting scheduled for tomorrow by the Steering Council, which was to hold a hearing with the two remaining candidates in the race.
The decision-making a few days ago, where through an illegal vote, most of the candidates, including well-known names in journalism such as Eni Vasili, were left out of the race, was harshly criticized by the Parliament, where in a common language, the DP and the SP warned of drastic measures for the Steering Council if it did not return the race to public television.
Faced with this situation, the Council, with its latest decision-making, has given itself until next week to see how the procedure will continue.
