They went to meet Ilir Meta but were stopped, SPAK reacts: Dule and Beleri did
Vangjel Dule and Fredi Beleri

The Special Prosecution Office against Corruption and Organized Crime (SPAK) has reacted after the Freedom Party's accusations of detaining Fredi Beleri and the president of the PBDNJ, Vangjel Dule, from meeting with Ilir Meta in the "313" prison in Tirana.

SPAK has clarified that, based on Article 51 of Law No. 81/2020 "On the Rights and Treatment of Prisoners and Detainees", visits by deputies to institutions for the execution of criminal decisions do not require authorization from the Prosecutor's Office, but are under the competence of the General Directorate of Prisons.

This clarification comes after the statement of the Secretary General of the Freedom Party, Tedi Blushi, who described the ban on the meeting as a scandalous act and called for a reaction from state institutions and international organizations.

SPAK's full response:

Based on Article 51 of Law No. 81 of 2020 "On the Rights and Treatment of Prisoners and Detainees", institutions for the execution of criminal decisions may be visited by deputies, without the prior authorization of the Prosecutor.

In this case, approval is granted by the General Directorate of Prisons.

As of 15:15 on 31.01.2025, the protocol of the Special Prosecution Office Against Corruption and Organized Crime has not received any request from citizens Alfred Beleri and Vangjel Dule to meet any detainees.
