Defense attorney Plarent Ndreca has called the decision to suspend the pre-trial detention terms for Tirana Mayor Erion Veliaj unconstitutional.

After today's session at the GJKKO, Ndreca said that the practice will be followed in the Supreme Court and the Constitutional Court, which must give their assessment based on the Constitution.

"We have appealed all the decisions that the court has taken to suspend pre-trial detention periods. Of course, it is a completely unconstitutional procedure. We already have one of the requests in the Supreme Court. I believe that the Supreme Court should assess, based on the Constitution, the consequences of these types of decisions, which have already been created as a precedent. To my knowledge, there is also a judge of the Special Appeals Court who has taken this very process, this precedent, to the Constitutional Court, and we will continue our requests until we get what we deserve from the Constitutional Court, as we have done in the past, and as it has turned out, we have been right every time we have raised claims related to respecting the constitutional standard," he said.
