The General Directorate of Prisons has launched a wide-ranging inspection campaign in all institutions for the execution of criminal decisions in the country, with the aim of discovering and seizing illegal items in cells or other premises, which are illegally brought in by detainees or convicts.

The action initially started at the Durrës Penitentiary, where a few days ago, searches were carried out in the cell of the mayor of Durrës, Erion Veliaj, in that of the former Minister of Health, Ilir Beqaj, as well as in the cell of the former chief prosecutor of Vlora, Aurel Zarka.

According to sources, no illegal items were found in any of these cells. However, in another block of the institution, a mobile phone was discovered hidden in a toilet, which was seized as material evidence.

Detailed checks were also carried out this Saturday at the Rrogozhina Penitentiary, where improvised cutting tools, chargers, electronic devices and communication accessories were found.

According to the General Directorate of Prisons, the action will continue in all prison institutions, with the aim of cracking down on any illegal phenomenon, without any compromise.

This move comes immediately after the appointment of Adriatik Kupi as head of the General Directorate of Prisons, following the departure of Klevis Qose.
