The Spanish Civil Guard has located and arrested in Albania the suspected perpetrator of the shooting on June 21, 2024 in Ibiza , the General Directorate of the force announced this Thursday in a press release.

The arrested man, who is charged with attempted murder, is suspected of shooting a person several times, who was seriously injured, as part of a settling of scores between drug traffickers.

An injured man abandoned at Can Misses hospital

The investigation began after a person was left at the entrance to Can Misses Hospital by a vehicle that sped away from the hospital center.

The person had gunshot wounds.

The victim had been hit by two bullets and, due to his serious injuries, was urgently transported from Ibiza to the Son Espases University Hospital, in Mallorca, to undergo surgery.

An alibi that didn't hold up

The first investigative actions made it possible to identify the driver of the vehicle that had dropped off the injured man at the hospital.

Initially, he stated that the two had gone to an area of ??Sant Josep with the intention of entering a flat to steal, and that there they were surprised by an armed person, who had opened fire on them.

However, the progress of the investigation refuted this version.

A drug settlement

According to the Civil Guard, investigators concluded that the sole intention of the injured man and his companion was to carry out a "vuelco de droga" – that is, the theft of a drug shipment from other traffickers – against an Albanian criminal organization located on the island.

The perpetrator of the shooting was a member of this organization, who was responsible for the security of a luxury property of the group, near the place where the events took place.

After the shooting, he left Ibiza and settled in Albania.

Operation "Vlad Ib"

The investigations were conducted within the framework of Operation "Vlad Ib", led by the Crimes Against the Person Sector of the Organic Unit of the Judicial Police of the Civil Guard in the Balearic Islands.

The suspect's tracks led to Albania, where Albanian authorities collaborated with Spanish agents until they managed to locate him.

Awaiting extradition

On June 9, Albanian Police officially announced the arrest of the suspect.

He is currently awaiting extradition to Spain, to be made available to the judicial authority that issued the International Arrest Warrant.

The Civil Guard stressed the importance of international coordination and joint work of the units involved in this case, which took two years to unravel and which once again places Ibiza in the spotlight for drug trafficking linked to Albanian mafias.
