Prime Minister Edi Rama, during his visit to the Command and Control Center of the "Smart City" project, recalled the tragic event near the "Fan Noli" school, where teenager Martin Cani lost his life.
Rama said that unlike those who, according to him, used that tragedy for political purposes and then forgot about it, he remembers it every day through work on implementing a project that aims to increase student safety in schools.
The head of government emphasized that the "School Safety" component, part of the "Smart City" project, is the institutional response to that event, aiming to prevent similar cases through technology and artificial intelligence.
He announced that the project has started with the first 20 selected schools and aims to create a modern monitoring system to guarantee students a safe environment.
"I have not forgotten, as have all those who used and misused that tragedy. I remember it every day by following this project, which is our response ," Rama said, among other things.
Rama's statement:
Today, everyone has forgotten the tragic murder that shocked the entire country and created a situation with different versions of the event, with the extreme politicization of death and with bloody journalism. Meanwhile, the State Police and, of course, through the State Police, the Ministry of Education, the government, were targeted by all kinds of speculations, accusations, fabrications and fabrications that lasted for quite some time and tortured the family members, but also the entire public opinion.
I have not forgotten, as have all those who used, misused, and abused that tragedy to the end, because I remember it every day by following this very project that is my response and our response to that tragedy.
A state cannot be measured by everything that happens, because even in the most developed states, with the most consolidated institutional traditions, with the most sophisticated administrative systems, with the longest histories of the formation of state culture, there are times when things happen that shock the entire public opinion.
But a state is measured by how it reacts to everything that happens, and our reaction in this case is a systemic reaction, which, even in honor of the memory of an innocent and unnecessary victim, will allow many children, who could be potentially at risk, to suffer no consequences, precisely because this systemic reaction will leave behind a sophisticated technological mechanism that will harmonize all the efforts of people in institutions with the unrivaled capabilities of AI and thus will enable prevention to be raised to another level.
Today we have started with the heart of the project, which is "Safety in Schools". With the first 20 schools selected based on the density of the number of students, the density of the surrounding population, the activities around them, and of course, the necessity that, by testing the model in these schools, we draw all the conclusions to continue with the other phases.
I believe that today all parents who have children in schools should feel good about the fact that the government, unlike how it is depicted in the daily life of social channels and in the daily life without a minute of sleep of the algorithm, is a body that says and does what it says.
