"Anonymous Letter" - Taulant Balla: I have never interfered in the affairs of the Muslim Community

The leader of the Socialist parliamentary group, Taulant Balla, has reacted through a public letter to an anonymous letter that, according to him, was addressed to him by an "unnamed member" of the League of Hoxhallars of Albania (LHSH).

In his response, Balla categorically denies any claim that he has interfered in the affairs of the Muslim Community of Albania or that he has requested the dismissal, removal or punishment of any imam, mufti or religious cleric.

" I declare in the most categorical way that I have never intervened and have never requested from the Muslim Community of Albania the dismissal, removal or punishment of any imam, mufti or religious cleric. This claim is untrue ," Balla said.

He asks the authors of the letter to make public any evidence that supports the accusations against him, or to withdraw them. Balla also criticizes the language used in the letter, stressing that references to religious punishments do not serve civic dialogue or faith itself.

In his response, he underlines that politics and religion should remain separate and that he has always respected the autonomy of religious institutions and freedom of belief in the country.

" Anonymity is not civic courage; it is the easiest way to throw mud without taking responsibility. Anyone who believes they are defending the truth has no reason to hide behind anonymity ," he writes.

In conclusion, Balla demands that the authors of the letter either present evidence for their accusations or face liability for defamation, reiterating that Albania is a country where freedom of religion is guaranteed and where the state does not interfere in the lives of religious communities.

"Therefore, the choice is simple: Either present evidence for the accusation you have made, or face your own reflection as a slanderer. This is not only an obligation to the truth, but also to the very religious principles you call upon for help."
