A 32-year-old Albanian man could not 'swallow' the breakup with his ex-partner, foolishly chasing her through the streets in a 'death race' that almost cost the young woman her life.

The Carabinieri of the Massafra Operational Unit announced today (January 24) that they arrested the suspect late Thursday who was trying to escape after the crime.

He is accused of attempted murder and stalking of his ex-partner. The incident occurred in the Thebaid area, when the Albanian, after following her, hit his ex-girlfriend's car with his car, knocking her off the road.

After the incident, the perpetrator ran away without providing assistance to the woman, who suffered serious injuries after the collision and was taken to Castellaneta Hospital for treatment by the ambulance service.

During the investigation and the girl's testimony, they learned the identity of the aggressor and declared him wanted, while the motive for the crime was jealousy and refusal to accept the separation.

According to the story, the day before the incident, he had raped the young woman and threatened her with his life, and then continued to harass her through phone calls and messages, trying to convince her to get back together.

He responded to her refusal with a scene like in action movies, with a car chase on the road and causing an accident with the aim of killing his ex-partner in revenge, the media informs. After the arrest, the accused was released by the court today under house arrest, while he awaits the investigation and trial process.
