Kosovo authorities have arrested eight suspects and confiscated weapons, including explosives, after a wide-ranging operation on Saturday in connection with the explosion in the Ibër-Lepenci canal in the north of Kosovo, announced the Minister of the Interior of Kosovo, Xhelal Sveçla.
"Belgrade is officially responsible for the attack on the water channel in Zubin Potok" , declared the Minister of the Interior of Kosovo, Xhelal Sveçla, in an emergency press conference on Saturday afternoon.
The minister stated that we are dealing with a well-organized professional group, as he also added that eight suspects have been handcuffed for the case.
"After intensive investigations, today in the morning hours in 10 locations we carried out checks, where 8 people were arrested at the police station as suspects of involvement in criminal and terrorist actions. The check was carried out in cooperation with the justice bodies and the KIA."
Sveçla described last night's attack as the heaviest committed against Kosovo's critical infrastructure since the end of the war.
"This terrorist attack is not just an ordinary attack but it is an attack organized by groups or organizations that are professionals in organizing such attacks that are terrorist. Their aim was to maximize the damage to the detriment of the state of Kosovo and its citizens."
Meanwhile, from the checks carried out, an arsenal of weapons, ammunition and explosives were seized.
The Director of the Kosovo Police, speaking at the joint conference with the Minister of Sveçla, said that explosives up to 20 kilograms were used in the attack on the Ibër-Lepenci canal.
To hit the channel, at least 15-20 kg of explosives, activated by a mechanical detonator, are placed in a black bag.
"Based on the investigations at the scene, it is suspected that a large amount of explosives of 15 to 20 kilograms were used to carry out this terrorist attack. The explosive was placed in a black bag and was activated with a mechanical detonator, through a slow-burning wick," said Hoxha.
Hoxha said that the explosion caused great damage, causing the drinking water supply to be interrupted in many areas and localities.
