Mihallaq Përgjika, a name known to authorities due to his criminal past, is suspected of having spent some time outside Albania.
Sources indicate that during 2020-2021 he was thought to be in Belgium, while he is then suspected of having illegally returned to Albania and settled in Korça, where he is believed to have attempted to remain in hiding.
In light of this information, the police have intensified checks in the city over the past few days, verifying premises and addresses where the wanted person could be hiding.
According to sources, it was the director of the Korça Police, Vilson Bala, who requested the support of the RENEA forces for the intervention, assessing that the operation required the engagement of specialized structures.
The intervention of special forces in a building in Korça has attracted the attention of residents of the area, while the presence of armed officers and the searches carried out took place in the early hours of the day.
The operation, however, did not produce the expected result, as the person suspected of being the main target of the action was not found.
Authorities continue their search for the 45-year-old's location, while it remains to be determined whether he is still in Korça or was able to leave the city before the intervention of special forces.
