His murder by another Greek convict is being investigated, but it is likely to have been ordered, as the life of the notorious Tepelena resident had been sought for years by many opponents who have repeatedly attempted to eliminate him, but without success.

In January 2016, in the area of ??the former bus park in the capital, a moving car fired shots at Aliaj while he was sitting in a bar, but he escaped without any injuries.

The assassination attempt was repeated four months later in Gjirokastra, where he was again shot from a moving car and Jani Aliaj was slightly wounded in the hand.

After these attacks came the counterattack.

On the evening of May 1, 2016, in a bar in the former Bllok, disguised with a wig, Jani Aliaj shot and killed his sworn opponent, Elton Çiço.

The two Tepelena men had known each other in Greek prisons since the 2000s, where they started a conflict that lasted for years and resulted in dozens of deaths.

In 2015, Elton Çiço's parents were severely beaten and his apartment was robbed.

This event sparked a revenge, where the people involved were eliminated one after another with weapons and explosives.

Even after Çiço's murder, revenge continued from his friends, who, unable to find Jani, carried out assassination attempts on his friends.

For the murder of Çiço, Jani Aliaj was sentenced in absentia to life imprisonment in Albania, and his assets were seized as it was suspected that they had been obtained through illegal sources.

 He was arrested in December 2024 in Athens, with forged Greek documents, and was awaiting extradition to Albania.
