One of the reasons for Greece's blockade of Albania is the issue of Chameria, as stated in an article of the Italian newspaper "ilriformista.it".
While making a brief historical overview of what happened in Çameri, the Italian newspaper says that it is important to talk more and more about what actually happened, which was the persecution and mass displacement of Albanians by the Greek army.
In 1940, Greece established the law of war with Albania, a law that is still in force today, the article underlines, as the fact that official Athens does not recognize any ethnic or linguistic minority is emphasized.
However, according to the article, about 40 thousand Orthodox hearts still live in the Chameria region.
"Cameria is one of the many regions of the Balkans with a minority and a complex history that affects the bilateral relations between the states.
Its history and culture must be explored in depth to resolve the tensions politically. In fact, cultural diversity and minorities are an asset and a fundamental characteristic of the Balkans. But this wealth must be used positively, comprehensively, not used to divide. The European Union can help protect it", concludes the article of the Italian newspaper.
