The British media, Daily Mail, has published photos of the 29-year-old tourist who died in Saranda a few days ago. Rebecca Gannon, 29, was with her boyfriend when she ran into trouble while diving on Monday afternoon with a group of seven other divers.
The British media have widely covered the news of the death of an English tourist on the Albanian coast. A diving instructor has been arrested after a British holidaymaker drowned in front of her boyfriend off the coast of Albania.
Rebecca Gannon, 29, was with her boyfriend when she got into trouble while going underwater on Monday afternoon with a group of seven other divers.
Instructor Saimir Kushova, 45, jumped into the water to save her after noticing she was in trouble and managed to pull her to the surface.
Her boyfriend - whose name has not been released - could only watch helplessly as other instructors frantically tried to save her before she made it back to shore.
The police announced the day before that the 45-year-old had illegally hired a diving instructor in his work group, and did not provide the necessary technical conditions for diving.
Daily Mail has written that her boyfriend, whose name has not been made public, witnessed this tragedy. The divers who were present tried to save the young woman. But everything was in vain.
"We really don't know what happened and we are waiting for the police to finish the investigation. The British girl who died was with her boyfriend. Both had PADI open water diving certifications so they were qualified to dive with us. She stayed in the water for 10 minutes and then had difficulty. Previously there was a problem with the oxygen regulator, but it was replaced and it was working very well. The next thing we know, Saimir spots her in trouble and dives in to save her. He did everything he could to bring her to the surface. It was a traumatic experience and her boyfriend was very saddened by this event. We just don't know what happened", said Gerta Brozi who was with the group of divers.
Brozi has told the British media that the diving site was not very difficult and that an autopsy is awaited for the case.
