A 37-year-old man has been arrested by Italian police after being caught transporting 25 kilograms of cocaine by car in the Perugia area.

According to Italian media, it is learned that citizen Antik Ferko, a resident of the Spello area, has been arrested, suspected of being involved in a large drug trafficking network in the Umbria region.

The Guardia di Finanza also found around 55 thousand euros in cash, a stolen firearm and encrypted telephone equipment in the Albanian's car.

The total value of the seized drugs was 24.7 kg and is estimated to be worth around 2.5 million euros.

It was divided into ten packages hidden in double compartments, crafted in a handcrafted manner under the rear floor, near the driver and passenger seats.

These compartments were equipped with a sophisticated mechanical system, built to evade control by the authorities.

Searches were also carried out at the arrested person's apartment in Spello and at his parents' home in Foligno.

In the bedroom of Antik Ferko's parents, another quantity of cocaine, a precision scale, a 6.35 caliber Beretta pistol (turned out to be stolen), three mobile phones, six SIM cards and a full 27 thousand euros in cash were found.

All the material is owned by the suspect, according to his testimony, with the exception of 18,100 euros that were hidden in a safe.

Encrypted telephone equipment was also found in the house, which according to investigations were used for communications related to drug trafficking.

The judge for preliminary investigations in Spoleto, Luca Cercola, confirmed the arrest and ordered Ferko to be placed under house arrest with an electronic bracelet.

According to the judge, there is sufficient evidence of his involvement in drug distribution and the lack of a credible explanation for the large amount of money, underlines the suspicions about the existence of a structured organization operating in drug trafficking in Umbria, especially in the areas of Spello, Foligno and the surroundings of Perugia.

Although he has no criminal record, the suspect has partially admitted his involvement in this activity and expressed "regret" before the prosecutor, although he chose not to respond during questioning.
