Former member of the Kosovo Police Special Unit, Arbnor Spahiu, who was sentenced to one month in pre-trial detention in Serbia, is suspected of committing the criminal offense of "aggravated murder", the High Court in Subotica confirmed to Radio Free Europe.
Spahiu is suspected of having committed this act in Banjska – the northern part of Kosovo – where a group of armed Serbs attacked the Kosovo police in September 2023, killing Sergeant Afrim Bunjaku.
In the ensuing gunfight, three more Serbian attackers were killed.
Under Serbian law, "aggravated murder" is punishable by a minimum sentence of ten years in prison or life imprisonment.
The Serbian authorities' suspicions about this crime were confirmed to Radio Free Europe by Spahiu's lawyer, Arianit Koci, who said that he is currently in Subotica and that "he is fine."
But, speaking to journalists in Pristina a day earlier, Koci said that his client has not been part of the Kosovo Police for three years and that he lives in Germany.
