A serious incident occurred in Essen, Germany today.
An 18-year-old student from Kosovo attacked his teacher with a knife near his school, in its educational park, stabbing her hard in the stomach and seriously injuring her.
According to BILD, the knife attacker was shot dead by police after a chase as he attempted to escape and was suspected of hurting other people.
German media reports that the stabbing took place in the educational park of the vocational college in the Nordviertel district of Essen and the motives for the crime remain unknown. Preliminary information suggests that the teacher is also a Kosovar. She has a serious wound to her stomach, but according to doctors, her life is out of danger. After first aid from paramedics, she was taken to hospital, where she is being treated.
"Whether he was also in the classroom or entered the classroom remains unclear. It is suspected that he approached the teacher and stabbed her. He fled after the attack. Shortly after 11:00 a.m., police received a report of a suspicious person in a park about three kilometers from the school, who matched the description of the perpetrator. When the special forces wanted to search the suspect, he allegedly ran straight towards the officers with a knife. The police then allegedly shot him. The suspect was arrested," the media reported, among other things, about the dynamics of the suspect's murder.
Police have surrounded the building with heavily armed officers in riot gear.
"We have a large force at the scene," a police spokesman said. A police helicopter also surrounded the complex. Essen Mayor Thomas Kufen (CDU) has just arrived at the scene to assess the situation. A terrorist attack has been ruled out for now, although the motives remain unclear.
Many students went into shock as a result of the incident and were treated by the doctors present.
