9th anniversary of the canonization of Mother Teresa!

Today marks the 9th anniversary of the canonization of Mother Teresa, a figure known worldwide for her dedication to the poorest and abandoned.

On September 4, 2016, in a ceremony in St. Peter's Square at the Vatican, Pope Francis declared Mother Teresa a "Saint," calling her a "saint of mercy" and "an icon of divine love."

Mother Teresa was born on August 26, 1910 in Skopje with the name Anjezë Gonxhe Bojaxhiu, to Albanian parents.

At the age of 18 she left Skopje to join the Loreto Sisters in Ireland, and from that day on she would never see her parents again.

She founded the Missionaries of Charity in Calcutta, India, where she spent decades serving the sick and poor. Her works inspired millions of people around the world, making her a symbol of Christian love and humility.

She won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1979. In 2003 she was beatified by Pope John Paul II and declared a saint in 2016.

She visited Albania for the first time in August 1989, while ten years earlier, in 1979, she won the Nobel Peace Prize.

September 5 is an official holiday in Albania.

The Council of Ministers approved an amendment to the law "On official holidays" in the country, according to which September 19, which is the Beatification Day of Mother Teresa, would be replaced with September 5, the Day of her Canonization.

Saint Mother Teresa passed away on September 5, 1997, but her figure continues to be a source of inspiration for charity, faith, and humble service, especially in a world increasingly torn apart by poverty and social injustice.
