The Head of the Special Prosecution Office, Altin Dumani, during today's plenary session in the Parliament, answered questions from MPs regarding the investigations into the incinerators of Tirana, Elbasan and Fier.
He was asked why he has not yet taken Erion Veliaj as a defendant for the Tirana incinerator, as well as why no testimony has been taken from former Deputy Prime Minister Arben Ahmetaj, who is on the run.
Regarding the latter, Dumani said that if Ahmetaj wants to receive the status of a repentant person and become a collaborator of justice, he is welcome.
"SPAK has investigated, within the framework of these investigations, 71 people of all levels; some are in final criminal decisions, some are in the investigation process.
Regarding the question of being treated within the framework of a structured criminal group, regarding the Elbasan and Fier incinerators, these two criminal proceedings have passed all stages of judicial investigation and have found the legal qualification made by the Special Prosecution Office correct.
Regarding the question of why I haven't received it yet, the preliminary investigations have not been completed, but are still ongoing.
Regarding the question about former minister Arben Ahmetaj, his public statements are evaluated on a case-by-case basis. For us, he is a wanted person in connection with the incinerators. If a person wants to become a collaborator of justice, he is more than welcome," said Dumani.
