The head of SPAK, Altin Dumani, reported today to the Parliament on the activity of the Special Prosecution Office during 2024.
During his speech, Dumani said that SPAK's role has helped Albania improve its score on the global corruption index by 5 points.
Dumani said during his speech that the US Department of State (DASH) "has appreciated the work of SPAK."
He also emphasized that the corruption perception index has improved in Albania.
"In the Global Corruption Index for 2024, Albania is rated with 42 points, improving the corruption perception index by 5 points compared to the previous year. Transparency International has recognized SPAK's role in increasing public trust. SPAK has given special importance to property and financial investigations," Dumani stated during his speech.
He also said that the value of confiscated and seized assets is 65.8 million euros.
Dumani reiterated the EU's recommendations regarding the strengthening of corruption investigations that SPAK has implemented, which he also stated during the reporting on October 4 at the joint meeting of two committees: the Committee on Legal Affairs and Public Administration with the Committee on Civic Initiatives, Cooperation and Institutional Oversight.
He said that SPAK "consolidated capacities by increasing the number of prosecutors from 17 to 20, increasing the expertise of the BKH and increasing training," which according to Dumani has brought about an "80% increase in cases under investigation and 21% in investigations for investigated persons."
