During his report to the Assembly for 2024, SPAK head Altin Dumani was also asked about Albanian organized crime and its cooperation with countries in the region, and whether there is any evidence that Serbian cartels use the port of Durres for drug trafficking.
Dumani confirmed that investigations have shown that Albanian organized crime collaborates with Serbian and Montenegrin organized crime.
"The visits and meetings at the State Department were some of the best I have ever had. We have communicated with the media about what was discussed. SPAK's cooperation with all American law enforcement authorities was appreciated. But this has nothing to do with my visit to Montenegro and the meeting with the special prosecutor there. We have excellent cooperation with Montenegro, Macedonia and Kosovo. We have very good cooperation and a framework agreement with Montenegro.
"We have noticed that Albanian organized crime closely cooperates with organized crime in Montenegro and Serbia. As for the visit of the Serbian special chief prosecutor, this was also a necessity since the investigations have concluded that Albanian organized crime cooperates with organized crime in Serbia. We have already established communication bridges to combat organized crime ," Dumani said in the Assembly.
He stated, among other things, that SPAK has seized at least 4 hotels for money laundering, and there have also been strikes in construction, according to him.
"The increase in criminal proceedings for money laundering is clear. We have launched investigations for money laundering in both construction and tourism. I can say that at least 4 hotels have already been confiscated. In construction as well, some are in the process, some have been confiscated," said Dumani.
