English police used a toothbrush to make the connection between an Albanian car wash worker and a cannabis house in a Norfolk village that he was helping to run.

Meardo Kokomani was caught in a car near the drug farm, on a property in Terrington St John, after it was raided by police officers.

Norwich Crown Court was told that police found a toothbrush at the scene, which, when examined by forensics, clearly showed that the 32-year-old Albanian was staying at that address.

Richard Paterson, prosecuting, said only two plants were found on the property, although there were another 110 seedlings, as well as hydroponic equipment used to grow them.

The prosecutor said the work had "just begun" at the time of the raid in June 2023. Kokomani was also found with £605 in cash.

The defendant, who lives in Cambridge, appeared in court on Tuesday after previously admitting to producing cannabis on June 9, 2023.

Kokomani, who was legally in the country and worked at a car wash. Judge Shaw imposed a two-year community service order.

Kokomani must carry out 80 hours of unpaid work as part of the order.
