Liridon Kastrati, 32, an Albanian national, was found guilty of assaulting Police Scotland officers after being seen on security camera footage threatening officers with a dangerous vehicle. He had denied a charge of attempted murder against four Police officers.

According to authorities, the direct target of the attack was Officer Gary Cowan, who, according to Police Scotland, has now returned to duty after an event described as "extremely traumatic."

The court ruled that the 10-year sentence should be calculated from May 2024, when Kastrati was arrested after the incident.

Immediately after the verdict was announced, the convict reacted violently in the courtroom, hitting the defendants' bench and initially shouting in Albanian.

Then, in English, he used offensive language towards Judge William Gallacher and called Scotland a "terrorist country", before being escorted from the courtroom by security officers.

Scottish authorities have described the case as a serious attack on law enforcement and have stressed that violence against police will face severe legal penalties.
